The conditions that gave rise to WWI (which in and of itself caused WWII) no longer exist. The main condition being high tariffs.

Free trade is more prevalent today. Trade wars can still be waged, but the level of interdependence that the great powers (Russia, the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Japan, China) all have on one another make another world war highly unlikely.

Moreover, the fact that most of these nations possess second strike capabilities make ...

No it's not possible. There will not be mech-tanks crawling around on four legs in 13 years.

And foreign policy realists and liberals (fyi those have nothing to do with standard liberal and conservative philosophies) would argue that the military balance of power in the world and the continuing move toward democratization and free trade make the likelihood of a major war in the future remote.

MGS games are the opposite of COD.

Each one introduces brand new concepts that wholly alter the gameplay dynamic. And every one of them is more complex than any COD game.

Baseless speculation.

The bread and butter of video games journalism/commentary.

Oh yeah of course, because the whizz bang gigantic set-piece driven warfare exemplified by the COD series are exactly what happens during a cold war. :/

BlOPS looked worse than MW2, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Skyrim worked well enough on PS3. Much better than Fallout anyways. And the framerate thing has been patched.

But that's pretty much Bethesda's thing at this point. Never buy from them and expect a completely finished project.

I hope between now and launch Sony realizes the code name for this game, Title Fight, is better than Playstation All Stars Battle Royale.

What a terrible damn name. Doesn't roll off the tongue at all.

@ Pekolie

You're right it would be a major loss for Sony, but not for me. I already own my console and I'm more than satisfied with the output I've seen from Sony in terms of exclusives and the content of multiplat releases.

Who ultimately 'wins' the console wars doesn't affect your or me in the slightest as long as good games continue to be made available.

And even if I were a fanboy, who cared about which faceless, ...

I'm glad he's leaving. G4 doesn't deserve him or most of the people who work in their games division.

If it weren't for all the great people working on their website I'd have written off the whole network years ago.

@ Forza

Kinect games don't count quite the same as fully boxed 60 dollar AAA releases.

Technically speaking both Kinect Star Wars and Uncharted 3 are exclusives. But the difference in the effort each game necessitated for their creation is vast. You have to compare like to like.

Gears to Uncharted

Crappy Kinect game to crappy Move game.

Well whatever. It's hard to lament the loss of an exclusive I didn't know existed and knew nothing about.

Then again, lamenting an exclusive is pointless unless the development of said game is negatively impacted by the porting process.

And hell, I've never even heard of Black Troll Studios before now.

They really don't.

Their push to make new JRPG brands work on Xbox was admirable, but a total failure. Mostly due to middling quality games.

They ignored where their fanbase was on consoles. Square was profoundly foolish on that front because the primary players of JRPG's are the Japanese, and the vast majority of Japanese own Wiis and PlayStations. To say nothing of how things worked out in the West, what with slow PS3 sales and virtual indifferen...

Dear JRPG fans, Square hates you.

That's why they won't give you the Kingdom Hearts game you want, the FF7 remake, or FF13VS. You see, Square doesn't want to make video games, they want to make long melodramatic CG anime cutscenes. But nobody likes those for movies, so they shoehorn in gameplay and sell it to videogame consumers who, being younger and less discriminatory, will put up with more BS than if they were just watching a movie.

Except y...

Hopefully this is a lie and they're planning a secret appearance akin to what they did at the Sony conference with Portal 2.

I don't think it's a bad fit.

But personally, after seeing him in Game of Thrones I think he'd make a perfect Klingon in a Star Trek movie.

@Shinrock

What do you mean who wants to be those characters? You mean for Halloween? For real? To make believe pretend to be?

Do you mean people look forward to playing as certain characters? That might make some sense, but obviously people do like to 'be' Drake or 'be' a soldier in Killzone because those games keep selling.

But do you really look forward to playing Halo and Gears for the characters? The characters in those...

I feel like Gears would have worked better if it were mock serious.

Like when Marcus is mourning the death of (I won't spoil it just in case but you know who) it's freaken hilarious. Almost like The Room.

If the whole game had been like that, you know, an ironic satire of gruff space marine melodrama. That would have been great.

They could just rerelease Dark Souls with the new content. I'd bet a lot of us would trade in Dark Souls and pick up the new edition.

And I wouldn't feel bad about that. I have well over a hundred hours in Dark Souls. I totally got my money's worth.
